This 1981 Mercedes-Benz 380SL is in fair condition; however, there are several issues to note. The wipers are worn and should be replaced. Minor miscellaneous scratches are present around the vehicle, particularly on the passenger-side fender and quarter panel. The paint exhibits some wear and tear consistent with its age and mileage. The underside displays areas of surface rust. Additionally, the rear driver's side taillight lens is broken, and the hood has rock chips. Chipping is evident on the passenger door edge, driver door edge, and driver quarter panel. Moreover, the passenger door shows chrome damage, and there is peeling on the grille. Furthermore, the wheels of the vehicle are displaying signs of corrosion.
Upon inspection inside, several issues were noted. The driver's sun visor shows signs of wear. There is light wear on the seats, which is normal for the mileage. The radio does not function properly; faint static can be heard. The inner door panels show wear consistent with age and mileage. The A/C is not blowing cold, and the compressor did not turn on, indicating a malfunction in the A/C system, requiring further diagnosis. Additionally, the carpet shows normal wear consistent with age and mileage.
The vehicle's mechanical components were thoroughly inspected. An oil leak is evident, as oil is visibly leaking from underneath the chassis. Further diagnosis is necessary to pinpoint the exact source of the leak. The brake rotors are displaying signs of rust. The exhaust system shows some surface rust throughout; however, there are presently no leaks, and it sounds healthy. There were no indications of a burning oil smell in the engine compartment after running the vehicle. Fasteners in the engine bay appeared intact and secure. Additionally, hoses, belts, axle boots, and visible bushings seemed to be in good condition. No obvious leaks were observed from the engine and transmission areas.
After inspecting the vehicle, I conducted a road test. The transmission displays some clunkiness when cold, although this issue improves as it warms up slightly. Despite this, the vehicle accelerated as anticipated and performed well in terms of ride quality, acceleration, and handling. Additionally, the brakes felt firm, with no discernible pulsation.
