A nice classic that is in drivable condition but will need some additional work to get it fully roadworthy! Upon arrival the owner had the vehicle staged for inspection and met me with keys for a test drive.
- Test Drive was conducted by the owner (less than a mile) and was limited to the back gravel roads of the property so highway speeds were not achieved. Engine started without hesitation and ran extremely smooth. Car rode well and appeared to steer well however the owner did share that there's a random "steering wheel shimmy" at speeds between 45-55mph.
- Exterior was in relatively great shape for an 62-year old car with no indications that any body-repairs had been done in the past (no over-spray and mismatched coloring).
- Undercarriage showed signs of very minor surface rust and oxidation. All in all, a clean undercarriage that appears to have seen normal use, but nothing to indicate that there has been excessive exposure to salted roads, or frequent snow corrosion.
- Engine appeared to be very well maintained and clean. No signs of extensive modifications or other tampering with factory components. An electric fuel pump has been added to augment the mechanical pump, but other than that I could locate no other modifications to the engine. Underside of engine shows evidence of seepage and oil buildup but nothing leaking at the time of inspection. All fluids were full and appropriate color/texture.
- Interior was in good shape and with exception of some various trim and upholstery items showing their age.
- Tires were two brands (Firestone for all except right rear which was Michelin) and were the factory recommended size of (105-15). All tires still have serviceable tread life remaining. There were no signs of irregular wear patterns (indicating that it may be time for an alignment) and during the test drive, there was no drifting or pulling to one side or the other, however the right front did show the early signs of dry rot.
All in all there were no indications that this vehicle has been abused or that it has any impending mechanical failures. While no inspection can uncover all potential future problems/failures, the overall condition of this vehicle is what most reasonable people would consider average for a 62-year old vehicle with 63K+ miles.
