I inspected the 1979 Excalibur Phaeton at the seller's residence on 6/15/2022

I started my inspection by checking fluid capacity within the engine bay. Oil, Coolant, Power Steering Fluid, Washer fluid, and Brake fluid were at correct capacity. The drive belts and hoses looked old, but not rotted. There were no indication of leaks from the top of the motor. The lower steering stabilizer shock had fluid leaking on top of it. After looking closer, it appears that one of the power steering lines is seeping fluid. The front suspension looks original without any signs of replacement or impact. Steering stabilizer arm bushings are cracked, as are the small bushings on top and bottom of the shocks. The control arm bushings are also showing cracks forming. The rear suspension also looks original without signs of impact. The bushings surrounding the mounting bolts to the frame have signs of cracking. All four tires are of the same manufacturer and around the same tread depth.

Next I took a look at the exterior condition of the vehicle. The front end panel alignment is factory. The front bumper and grille have signs of pitting from road debris. The hood as well as the hood sides have paint flaking. Seems that the paint on the galvanized panels surrounding the engine either were not prepped correctly or the heat of the engine is causing the issue. The issue doesn't exist on the rest of the vehicle. There are minor chips and paint blistering throughout the vehicle. Please see photos. Windshield is cracked. The roof material is in good shape without tears or snags.

Vehicle interior is in good condition. The driver’s seat bottom has some wear marks, but the passenger seat and the rear seat seem to have held up well. Please see photos. The headliner, dashboard, carpet, seats, rear seat, and rear cargo space are all clean and have been used well. Locks work, Cut out shades (windows) work, mirrors, seat belts and seat levers work. The AC does not work, the windshield wiper arms do not work, and the radio does not work either. Air horns work, though the switch to engage them is not on the steering wheel.

The owner was able to get the vehicle to start, but the vehicle has an idling issue which would cause it to die after putting it in gear (drive or reverse). While the owner was throttling the engine, I was able to get a video of the vehicle running. The brake lights, signals, and headlights work. There is some squealing coming from the belts, and some white smoke coming out of the exhaust.
